Your Imagination Is #1!
I
suppose that if you already know why you should be collecting your
scrapbook supplies and putting them into a collected, organized place,
you wouldn’t be reading this page. But
I would like to
add this to your wealth of knowledge – if you don’t
have a place or
some structure set up to run to when the urge hits to record that
silly, funny, poignant,
fantastic, impressive, touching, .
. . whatever . . . event, it takes a whole lot more energy to take the
action. Even
if you just put all of your scrapbook supplies in an old suitcase and
stick it in the closet or attic or under the bed, you will be so much
more likely to record the moment if you have your tools at hand.
Later, if you’ve
really caught the scrapbooking bug, you can re-organize a corner of the
house to include a table and storage
items.
But,
what do you need to start your collection of scrapbook
supplies?
First, let’s start with what you’ve already
got. Although there is an
abundance of scrapbook supplies on the market, both online and at the
brick and mortar stores, you probably have a lot of what you need to
make your very first and any future scrapbook. Basically,
your
scrapbook supplies should be an album,
paper,
glue, scissors, photographs, newspaper clippings, fabric, ribbon,
leftovers from other projects, anything lying around the house, and the
most important element your drive to record some important memories.
Then there are some more expensive items that include a
camera, computer, printer, software, furniture, storage,
organizers.
Actually, I don’t believe that the list really stops, but,
then, your
scrapbook supplies really don’t need to include all of it. So,
get back to the basics.
Your scrapbook supplies are built around the events that
happen in your life - baby
announcements, baby showers, weddings, graduations,
birthdays, vacations,
field
trips, sporting events, moving into a new house, moving away
from an old neighborhood, Grandma’s
favorite recipes,
or Grandpa’s funeral. I can think of many others,
but so can you. So,
if these are the memories you want to record, your scrapbook supplies
will be found in the little physical things related to the event that
will bring back the emotions surrounding the event. And
sometimes even
the sad memories. Building the scrapbook is based on reliving
the
memories. So, literally, everything should be a part of your
scrapbook
supply collection. I actually had a
friend in college who packaged a magazine-in-a-box.
Imagination is the key.
Let
your imagination run wild! It’s more fun that way
and much more
effective. Imagine this, your son has graduated from college
and is
off in his own small apartment. His
model airplane
collection is sitting on the shelf in his old room at home and
you’re
planning on moving into a smaller place. How
can you make his model airplane collection a part of your scrapbook
supplies? Anything can and should
be included in your scrapbook supplies. The
result will be filled with the
emotional impact of the memory itself. And it will be a more
complete
and detailed memory because you will relive the event while creating
it. Making a journal allows you to recall more and enjoy it
more.
The
purpose of the “store”, whether it is an online
scrapbook store or some
neighborhood brick and mortar establishment, is to help you, the
scrapper, organize your efforts. You should buy what you want.
And you can always go back
to add more to your collection of scrapbook supplies. The scrapbook supplies we
offer include our
Forum, our Library,
our albums,
paper, embellishments,
borders,
kits, storage
units, and organizers,
and when ordering from our inventory you can have what you want within
days.
